The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Tue (21 Apr) has confirmed an additional 1,111 cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore as of 12 pm today.
Of the new cases, 20 are Singaporeans and permanent residents, while the rest comprises migrant workers living in dormitories.
This brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Singapore to 9,125.
MOH said, however, that the number of new cases in the larger Singapore community has decreased, from an average of 39 cases per day in the week prior to an average of 29 per day in the past week.
The number of unlinked cases in the community has remained relatively constant, with a daily average of 20 cases for the past two weeks.
MOH recording “many more cases” among migrant workers living in dormitories as a result of extensive testing
Earlier on Mon, MOH as of 12pm confirmed an additional 1,426 cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore — Singapore’s highest daily toll to date.
16 of the new cases are Singaporeans or permanent residents, while the rest are Work Permit holders residing in migrant worker dormitories.
No imported cases, however, were recorded on Mon.
The number of new cases amongst Work Permit holders residing outside dormitories has continued to increase, from an average of 13 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 24 per day in the past week.
The main increase today continues to be for Work Permit holders residing in dormitories, where the ministry is picking up many more cases because of extensive testing.
“These are not new infections as the workers are staying in their rooms and many have not reported sick. But when the teams go in to test them, many turn out to be positive,” the ministry wrote.
“Most of these cases have a mild illness and are being monitored in the community isolation facilities or general ward of our hospitals. None of them is in the intensive care unit,” MOH added.
Of the new cases, 63 per cent are linked to known clusters, while the rest are pending contact tracing.
Three new clusters were also identified, namely the following:

  1. Three of the earlier confirmed cases have now been linked to a new cluster at Jurong Apartments (555 Upper Jurong Road).
  2. 11 of the earlier confirmed cases have now been linked to a new cluster at Woodlands Lodge II (190 Woodlands Industrial Park E7).
  3. Nine of the earlier confirmed cases have now been linked to a new cluster at 8 Sungei Kadut Loop.

Update on condition of confirmed cases
As of Mon, 33 more cases of COVID-19 infection were discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.
801 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.
Of the 3,420 confirmed cases who are still in the hospital, most are stable or improving.
23 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
3,782 cases who are clinically well but still test positive for COVID-19 are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
11 have passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.
