Foreign worker dormitories had been contributing the majority of the reported COVID-19 cases in Singapore, and the number of dormitories gazetted as isolation areas are increasing.
As of today (20 April), there are a total of 18 foreign worker dormitories that have been declared as isolation areas.
According to notices by the Ministry of Health in the Government Gazette, the five latest dormitories that were gazetted are Avery Lodge, Cassia @ Penjuru, Westlite Mandai Dormitory, PPT Lodge 1A, and Jurong Penjuru Dormitory 1.
It had been reported that the notices for isolation at Avery Lodge and Cassia @ Penjuru will come into effect today. While the notices for Westlite Mandai Dormitory, PPT Lodge 1A and Jurong Penjuru Dormitory 1 already came into effect on Sunday (19 April).
As reported by Channel News Asia, the affected blocks at Avery Lodge at 2D Jalan Papan are the administration block as well as blocks A1, A2, B, C, D, E1 and E2.
At Cassia @ Penjuru at Penjuru Walk, blocks 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 and 21 had been declared as isolation areas.
As for Weslite Mandai Dormitory, blocks 32, 34 and 36 Mandai Estate were affected.
Blocks A, B, C and D at PPT Lodge 1A at 8 Seletar North Link were affected.
Blocks 50, 52, 54, 56 and 60 at Jurong Penjuru Dormitory 1 at Penjuru Place were isolated.
Prior to these additional five foreign worker dormitories, 13 other dormitories that have been gazetted as isolation areas include Tuas View Dormitory, Shaw Lodge Dormitory, North Coast Lodge, Kranji Lodge 1, Mandai Lodge 1, Cochrane Lodge 1, Cochrane Lodge 2, Acadia Lodge, Tampines Dormitory, Sungei Tengah Lodge, Toh Guan Dormitory, S11 Dormitory @ Punggol and Westlite Toh Guan Dormitory.
As of yesterday, the largest COVID-19 cluster is at S11 Dormitory @ Punggol with 1,508 confirmed cases originating from this cluster. Sungei Tengah Lodge was reported to be the second-largest cluster with 521 confirmed cases.
The newly gazetted dormitory—Avery Lodge—had a total of 24 COVID-19 cases, while Cassia @ Penjuru had 29 confirmed cases as of yesterday.
