Minister of Transport, Khaw Boon Wan has just announced on his Facebook page that wearing of face masks will be made compulsory for public transport in Singapore.
He wrote on Saturday late afternoon: “This will minimise transmission in public transport during post-CB period when safe distancing is compromised.”
Mr Wan then wrote that they will get commuters to wear masks now when using public transport with transport ambassdors reminding them to do so as well as posters.
He reminds those who do not have one, to go to their nearest community centre to collect it.
“Tomorrow is the last day for mask-collection. But when you do, please don’t loiter in CC. Collect your mask and go home. And stay home, please.” wrote Mr Wan.
It is not certain as to when the actual date of the mandatory face-masks wearing will be in force.
Just yesterday, National Environment Agency has also announced compulsory face-mask wearing in markets from today onwards.
This follows the footstep of places like Macau and Taiwan had earlier mandated wearing of facemasks on the public transport.
