In light of COVID-19 pandemic and how Singapore is taking a hit at the moment, foreign workers dormitories have been a growing area of concern in the outbreak as these dormitories have reported having created six new COVID-19 clusters.
Foreign workers in Singapore live closely together in overcrowded dormitories and this actually poses a great risk of a massive outbreak since the coronavirus transmits via close contact. A total of 63 workers were tested COVID-19 positive at S11 Dormitory at Punggol, and 28 cases were reported at Westliet Toh Guan Dormitory.
Earlier today (6 April), Worker’s Party politician, Yee Jenn Jong, made a brief post on his Facebook page announcing that he had received more than 200 pieces of reusable face masks from a friend. Mr Yee’s friend wanted to donate these face masks to the people who need it, which then explained why he handed them over to Mr Yee for help.
Mr Yee found a friend, Mr Armstrong, who will be able to pass these face masks to the foreign workers Mr Armstrong is in regular contact with. Mr Yee concluded his short post by reminding everyone that the foreign workers are the most vulnerable group of people to contract COVID-19 now due to the huge jump in numbers occurring in their dormitories.
“I received about 200+ reusable face masks yesterday from a friend who wanted it donated to those who will find it useful. Managed to find a friend Mr Armstrong who will be passing them on to foreign workers that he is in regular contact with. This group is most vulnerable now with the large number of new cases there. Stay safe all!”
