During the COVID-19 crisis in Malaysia, from the doctors and nurses in the frontlines, to the Royal Malaysia Police and Malaysia Armed Forces on the streets to enforce the Movement Control Order, the country’s King and Queen had been doing their part in contributing to these services.
Both the King, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and Queen, Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah are currently observing a 14-day self-quarantine. This was prompted because seven staff at Istana Negara were tested positive with COVID-19, and they are currently receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
As reported by Bernama, the Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin announced in a statement that Their Majesties had undergone the COVID-19 tests, both their results are negative.
Just a few days ago over the weekend, Malaysia’s Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah shared about her contribution to the hospital teams by cooking up a feast for them. The kitchen staff at the palace had been preparing plenty of homecooked food for the frontliners, and the Queen posted a variety of menu on her official Instagram account (@airtangan_tunkuazizah).
The Queen posted an Instagram post over the weekend, assuring her followers that all palace staff are locked inside the premise and they were not allowed to go out. According to her, the palace staff were being checked every day and her kitchen crew wore face masks and gloves when they worked in the kitchen. She explained that outsiders were not allowed into the palace as they were paranoid about the spread of COVID-19 as well. This particular post has since been removed.
“I hope all of you can understand that we are all locked inside Istana Negara. All of us are being checked every day, and we are not going out of the premise to meet anyone. We wear face masks and gloves when we cook, and we often sanitise our hands. Don’t worry (about the food safety), all of us are paranoid here and we’re not allowed to go out. Outsiders are not allowed to come in as well,” the Queen explained in the now-deleted post.
Earlier today (26 March), the Queen took the latest news in regards to her quarantine, stating that they are currently isolating themselves in separate rooms and are not meeting within themselves.
“I request all the people in Malaysia of various races and religions to pray for my family’s safety. We are quarantining in separate rooms and we’re not meeting within ourselves,” wrote the Malaysian Queen.
