It was reported that the latest Secretary-General of the National Solidarity Party (NSP), Spencer Ng, has declared that his party would contest the same constituencies that it did in the last General Election. Over the years, at least 5 people have resigned from the same Secretary-General position of NSP.
In 2015, NSP contested in MacPherson SMC, Pioneer SMC, Sembawang GRC and Tampines GRC. In particular, it lost its electoral deposit in MacPherson for engaging in a 3-cornered fight with Workers’ Party (WP) and People’s Action Party (PAP).
NSP managed to secure only 215 votes out of a total of 26,268 valid votes in MacPherson. PAP candidate Tin Pei Ling won with 65.6% of valid votes while WP’s Bernard Chen secured 33.6%.
Ng told the media yesterday (22 Mar) that he will lead a team to contest in Sembawang GRC while his party president Reno Fong will lead another team to stand in Tampines GRC.
However, it was earlier reported that Progress Singapore Party which is headed by former PAP MP, Dr Tan Cheng Bock, has also expressed intention to contest in Sembawang GRC and Pioneer SMC.
Meanwhile in Tampines GRC, WP has also been seen walking the ground there.
NSP says to field about 10 people
Yesterday, NSP members were seen distributing hand sanitizers to members of the public, including shopkeepers. Ng disclosed that some 10 people in NSP are interested in standing for the coming elections. They are aged between 20s to early 50s, he said.
With regard to the possibility of multi-cornered fights, Ng told reporters that they are a sign of democracy at work. “It’s kind of messy, but that’s democracy,” he said.
