The Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Fri (20 Mar) branded the allegation that an active mobility enforcement officer (AMEO) had kicked a personal mobility device (PMD) rider off his e-scooter as “unfounded and false”.

Responding to queries from STOMP, LTA confirmed that the incident did take place in Yishun yesterday, but the rider had actually “lost control of his device and fell”.

“The rider did not stop when signalled by AMEOs but instead turned around and attempted to escape. In the course of evasion, he lost control of his device and fell.

“As his particulars were being taken down by an AMEO, the rider tried to flee a second time. Another AMEO then held onto him to prevent his escape and both fell in the process,” said the Authority, noting that the e-scooter rider was riding a non-compliant device on a footpath.

The allegation was previously circulated by several individuals and pages on social media platforms such as Facebook, including traffic vigilante page ROADS.sg.

ROADS.sg, as well as an individual who had posted the allegation which was then shared by the page, have since removed their respective posts as at press time.

LTA said that while it “will not hesitate to take action” should the claims be “substantiated”, it “will not condone baseless accusations” to “discredit” its AMEOs.

“We urge members of the public to exercise responsibility when posting information online, and to refrain from spreading unsubstantiated allegations,” the Authority stressed.

LTA also said that it has referred the case to the police for further investigations.
