Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT) announced on Tuesday (17 March) that it will cancel its upcoming ‘Ballet Illuminations‘ tour in Malaysia amid the COVID-19 virus outbreak in the country.
On 25 February, SDT announced that it will be presenting ‘Ballet Illuminations’ in Malaysia, marking its 11th year performing at Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac) and its 6th year at Performance Arts Centre of Penang (penangpac).
However, the company released a statement on Tuesday, announcing the cancellation of the whole ‘Ballet Illuminations’ tour that was purportedly scheduled to be held on 24 to 26 April at klpac and 1 to 3 May at penangpac.
SDT said both klpac and penangpac box offices will contact their respective patrons regarding ticket refunds.
“Adhering to the COVID-19 guidelines dictated by the Ministry of Health, we regret to announce that SDT will no longer be performing at the Ballet West Choreographic Festival,” it said.
Peter & Blue’s Birthday Party, on the other hand, will proceed as scheduled from 11 to 14 June at SOTA Studio Theatre, Singapore. SDT asserted that some precautionary measures will be taken for the event.
“SDT staffs will be conducting thermal scanning, and patrons are advised to arrive early to ensure sufficient time to clear the queue at the entrance,” it noted.
SDT further stated that there will be no intermission for the performance and it will only be limited to 250 pax of audience, adding that temperature screening and health declaration form will be administered at the point of entry.
“We would like to request that visitors who are unwell or have recent travel history to affected countries (China, Iran, Italy, the Republic of Korea, France, Spain and Germany) to refrain from attending the performances,” it said.
“We greatly appreciate your patience as we implement the new measures and adapt in this challenging time,” it remarked.
