Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has sent about 100 firefighters to battle a blaze at an industrial area in Tuas last night (17 March), with one person reportedly injured from the fire.

On Tuesday, SCDF posted on Facebook that it was alerted to the fire at No 7 Tuas Avenue 18 at about 9.45pm.

Upon SCDF’s arrival, the fire was raging at the premises and was also spreading along the drains.

SCDF described the fire was the size of about one and a half football fields and had engulfed a five-storey high warehouse. Meanwhile, firefighters were fighting the fire with three water jets and one water monitor.

“It largely involved drums of flammable substances such as diesel and cleaning agents,” it said.

Amid the firefighting operation, SCDF had deployed 33 emergency vehicles and about 100 firefighters to the scene. They mitigated the blaze with six handled jets, three monitors, two Unmanned Firefighting Machines (UFMs), as well as one Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to conduct aerial monitoring of the incident.

SCDF also deployed its Combined Platform Ladder as it was expected to be a prolonged firefighting operation.

At around 8am this morning (18 March), SCDF shared on Facebook that the firefighting operation was still ongoing but it has surrounded and contained the fire.

Later on at 9am, SCDF posted another photo on Facebook that shows the affected area was filled heavily with smoke. It also advised members of the public to stay away from the area due to the ongoing fire mitigation process.

Following the incident, SCDF said one person had been taken to Singapore General Hospital for burn injuries.
