People’s Voice party’s founding chief Lim Tean criticized the Singapore government’s moves in containing the COVID-19 virus outbreak, indicating that “Singaporeans are paying the dreadful price for the People’s Action Party (PAP)’s total mishandling of the outbreak crisis”.

Mr Lim posted on Facebook earlier today (17 March) and said that the spike in the number of COVID-19 cases yesterday (16 March)–another 17 cases reported–has proved the failure of the government in containing the situation.

He said that despite Singapore being one of the furthest countries among all the other Asian countries from China, the country has reported a higher number of cases.

“Because of the silly notion that the PAP Ministers such as Gan Kim Yong and Lawrence Wong have, that life has to go on as normal, and that we cannot close ourselves to the rest of the world,” he noted.

He hinted that while PAP urged people to only wear a mask when feeling unwell, countries such as Taiwan, Macau, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Vietnam encouraged their people to wear a mask in public and they have done well in controlling the spread of COVID-19 virus. Mr Lim also brought up the Safra Jurong cluster.

“It was a total disgrace for an event like that to take place under the auspices of the PA and RCs and have it termed as a “private dinner” by MOH and the MSM,” he noted.

Mr Lim further remarked about other countries that imposed nationwide lockdowns over the virus outbreak including Singapore’s closest neighbor, Malaysia that is going into “a virtual total lockdown from 18 to 31 March” amid the outbreak.

“But here in Singapore, we are being sold the koyok that life must go on as normal,” he noted. “You begin to realise how warped and unfit these PAP Ministers are to lead when they put the economy above public health.”

He noted that life could not go on as normal during these “extraordinary times”, adding that “the chickens are coming home to roost and Singaporeans are paying the dreadful price for the PAP’s total mishandling of this crisis.”

Netizens slammed the government for not implementing a lockdown sooner

Meanwhile, many netizens commenting on Mr Lim’s post said the government should have called for lockdown sooner.

Some netizens said the government should be responsible for telling people to not wear a mask in public.

One netizen commented that in order to drive the economy, the government should take care of the people first.
