On Sunday, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed three new cases of COVID-19,  all three of the cases are linked to previous cases and a cluster of infection.

This brings the total number of cases to 75 so far.

About the confirmed cases

Case 73 is a 43 year-old male Singapore Citizen with no recent travel history to China. He is currently warded in an isolation room at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID). He is linked to the cluster at Grace Assembly of God.

He reported onset of symptoms on 9 February and sought treatment at a general practitioner (GP) clinic on 10 February. As he was identified as a close contact of Case 51, he was served a home quarantine order on 13 February and conveyed to NCID on 14 February. Subsequent test results confirmed COVID-19 infection on 15 February afternoon.

Prior to hospital admission, he had attended church service at Grace Assembly of God (Tanglin) (355 Tanglin Road). He is a regular serviceman in The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) but had not gone to work since onset of symptoms. He stays at Lorong 8 Toa Payoh.

According to a spokesperson from the Ministry of Defence:  “A Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) regular serviceman who worked at Building 613 of Tengah Air Base has tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on 15 February 2020. He has been identified by the Ministry of Health as Case 73. The serviceman is currently warded at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases. The SAF has been in contact with the serviceman to render support and assistance.”

The serviceman is said to have last visited his workplace on 6 Feb. SAF has carried out immediate and thorough disinfection of the premises the serviceman had been in.

Servicemen have also been reminded to continue with ongoing personal health and hygiene measures such as regular hand-washing with soap, twice-daily temperature taking, monitoring of their health, and consultation with a doctor if they feel unwell.

Case 74 is a 29 year-old male Singapore Citizen with no recent travel history to China. He is currently warded in an isolation room at Alexandra Hospital (AH). He is linked to the cluster at Grace Assembly of God.

He reported onset of symptoms on 12 February. He had sought treatment at the Urgent Care Centre at AH on 12 February, and again on 15 February when he was admitted and immediately isolated. Subsequent test results confirmed COVID-19 infection on 15 February afternoon.

Prior to hospital admission, he had gone to work at Hi-Yew Technology Pte Ltd (3031A Ubi Road). He stays at Mei Ling Street.


Case 75 is a 71 year-old female Singapore Citizen with no recent travel history to China. She is a family member of Case 41 and had been under quarantine since 7 February. She was confirmed to have COVID-19 infection on 16 February morning and is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID.

Update on condition of confirmed cases

To date, a total of 19 cases have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospital. Of the 56 confirmed cases who are still in hospital, most are stable or improving.

Five are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Links between previous cases found

Identified clusters of Covid-19 infection:

  • The Life Church and Missions Singapore (146B Paya Lebar Road) — (Cases 8, 9, 31, 33 and 38).
  • Yong Thai Hang (24 Cavan Road) — (Cases 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 27, 28, 34 and 40)
  • Private business meeting held at Grand Hyatt Singapore from 20 to 22 January — (Cases 30, 36 and 39)
  • Seletar Aerospace Heights construction site — (Cases 42, 47, 52, 56 and 69)
  • Grace Assembly of God — (Cases 48, 49, 51, 53, 54, 57, 58, 60, 61, 62, 63, 66, 67, 68, 70, 71, 73 and 74)

Contact tracing is underway for the other seven locally transmitted cases that are not connected to previous cases to establish any links to previous cases or travel history to mainland China.

Update on suspect cases

As of 16 February 2020, 12pm, 871 of the suspect cases have tested negative for COVID-19, and 75 have tested positive. Test results for the remaining 119 cases are pending.

Update on contact tracing for confirmed cases

Contact tracing for the confirmed cases is ongoing. Once identified, MOH will closely monitor all close contacts. As a precautionary measure, they will be quarantined for 14 days from their last exposure to the patient. In addition, all other identified contacts who have a low risk of being infected will be under active surveillance, and will be contacted daily to monitor their health status.

As of 16 February 2020, 12pm, MOH has identified 2,179 close contacts. Of the 2,045 who are still in Singapore, 1,781 have been contacted and are being quarantined or isolated. Efforts are ongoing to contact the remaining 264 close contacts.

More than 69,000 people have now been infected in China and around the world with a death toll of over 1,600 that is mainly concentrated in China, Wuhan where the virus originated from.
