Singapore Idol Hady Mirza, actors Zheng Ge Ping (Tay Kok Peng) and Devarajan Varadarajan, alongside Singapore’s ex-internationals like Nazri Nasir, Steven Tan, and Mohd Noor Ali are all set to take to the Our Tampines Hub pitch on 31 January at 7.30pm to help raise funds for the Chiam See Tong Sports Fund (CSTSF).

As part of the CSTSF Charity Shield, Singapore’s Ex-Internationals football team will take on the Celebrities Sports Club to raise about S$15,000 for the CSTSF. This will be the second consecutive year that the CSTSF is organising the football fundraiser.

It will be an evening to remember as the likes of Hady Mirza, Zheng Ge Ping, Devarajan, and Andrew Lua come up against some of our local heroes like Malek Awab, Nazri Nasir, Steven Tan and more,” said actor Mr Zheng Rong Ming, the captain of the Celebrities Sports Club.

Other players who have been confirmed for the Singapore Ex-Internationals side are Geylang International coach and former midfielder Mohd Noor Ali, former national goalkeeper Rezal Hassan, and Indra Sahdan Daud.

One of the former Lions who will be putting on his boots will be Geylang International coach Mr Mohd Noor Ali. He noted, “It is a good cause, and we can identify with the purpose of the charity to help young athletes who need support. We hope fans will buy as many tickets as possible to support the match.”

“We have been touched by the work done by the CSTSF to help other under-resourced athletes. This is just our small way of supporting the cause,” added former Lions skipper Mr Nazri Nasir.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Organising Committee of the CSTSF Charity Shield 2020 Mr Jose Raymond commented, “This is the second year in which we are organizing the friendly football match to help raise funds for the Chiam See Tong Sports Fund. We are thankful of the support given by the Celebrities Sports Club, the Ex-Internationals, our supporting partners like lawyer Eugene Thuraisingam and his team, and the Football Association of Singapore for their unwavering support for our cause.”

What’s more, Mr Raymond, who is also a Director of the Board of the CSTSF, will be making a cameo playing appearance during the match, along with Mr Thuraisingam, founder of law firm Eugene Thurasingam LLP, who are supporting partners of the Chiam See Tong Sports Fund Charity Shield 2020.

“Many of the players who will take to the field are household names like Nazri Nasir and Indra Sahdan Daud, including entertainment icons such as Rong Ming and Hady Mirza,” said Mr Ang Peng Siong, the Chairman of the Board of the CSTSF.

“We hope that as many people as possible will come out in support of the event and our stars on show as funds of which will benefit our under-resourced athletes in Singapore who are supported by the Chiam See Tong Sports Fund,” he added.

Tickets for the match cost S$20.00 and are available on Eventbrite. Members of the public can also email [email protected] for bulk purchases.
