In a Facebook post on 2 January (Thursday), the Law Breakers stated that dogs, bicycle and even personal mobility device (PMD) are spotted in a nature reserve in Singapore.

“What was supposed to be a day of joy on new year to visit nature reserves/parks on a new year day (2020) however, it turn out to be a great disappointment and shocked to see many law breakers on a new year day (01/01/2020) who brought dogs, ride pedal cycle and even a PMD into nature reserves,” it wrote.

According to National Parks Board (NPark), bicycles and PMDs are only allowed on footpaths and cycling paths, but not on four gazetted nature reserves as well as other locations like Henderson Wave Bridge, Forest Walk at Telok Blangah Hill Park and Canopy Walk at Kent Ridge Park.

As for dogs, they are not allowed on the country’s four nature reserves and other prominent parks such as Upper Peirce Reservoir Park, Upper Seletar Reservoir Park and Thomson Nature Park.

“Understand that dogs, bicycle and motorised e-bike (PMD) are all prohibited into nature reserves,” the post stated.

It added that it was also shocked to see a PMD user speeding within the reserves and almost killed a wild squirrel.

“What was more shocking is witnessing a wild squirrel dashing out from the jungle trying to cross a road inside nature reserves was almost killed and run over by a PMD (motorised E-bike) speeding approximately 60 kph to 70 kph inside the reserves,” it said.

In nature reserves and parks, the law says that the speed limit for devices on footpaths is only 10km/h and 20km/h on shared paths or cycling paths.

As such, it noted that the first day of 2020 was a bad day and a great disappointment due to this incident.

It went on to say that “no authorities or park rangers were present to stop the illegal law breakers”.
