Bayfront Avenue

A 17-year old riding a personal mobility device (PMD) was arrested on Sunday (29 December) morning after an accident with a six-year-old boy resulting in the boy being taken to the hospital. The accident took place at Bayfront Avenue, near The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands at 12.42am on Sunday.
The six-year-old boy was conscious when he was taken to the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, said the police.
The police, who was alerted to the accident, have arrested the 17-year-old for causing hurt by rash act.
Investigations are ongoing.

Just a couple of days from the full footpath ban

Singapore is just days away from the full enforcement of the ban prohibiting PMDs being used on footpaths and roads. The ban, announced in early November, means that PMDs can only be used on cycling paths and Park Connector Networks (PCNs).
Those found guilty of flaunting the ban can be fined up to S$2,000 and jailed for up to three months once the ban is strictly enforced starting January 2020.
For the next two days, the advisory period still stands when it is said that offenders will be given warnings in order for riders to adjust to the changes.
The ban was announced after a slew of accidents involving errant PMD riders, most notably a fatal accident in September involving a 65-year-old woman on a bicycle who suffered major injuries and slipped into a coma before passing away after she collided with a 20-year-old on a PMD.
