Just after the police said they have arrested four individuals, including two teenagers aged 17 and 19, for their involvement in the Telegram group chat called “SG Nasi Lemak” circulating obscene materials, AsiaOne reported on yet another Telegram group of the same nature.
This new group, called “SharingIsCaring”, is a private group chat with over 100 members at the time the article was published and has shared over 5,700 videos and photos of women and girls taken without their consent by the time the chat group was only 10 days old.
The chat group allows users to send photos of women and girls taken in public areas like MRTs and libraries, according to the report. Users also share pornographic content, according to the screenshots on AsiaOne as provided by one of the members of the group chat.
The creator of the group, named Lust Wander, also appears to be recruiting more people into this new group, especially ‘snipers’, those who surreptitiously snap photos and videos of unsuspecting women and girls to be shared in the group.
According to Straits Times, the police are aware of the “SharingIsCaring” group and are looking into the matter.
When contacted by AsiaOne, the police directed them to the earlier statement about the “SG Nasi Lemak”, saying that the public is advised to stop soliciting in any lewd websites or joining such online platforms and illicit chat groups.
“The Police takes a serious view of anyone involved in criminal activities and will continue to take tough enforcement actions against those breaking the law.”
The four people involved in the SG Nasi Lemak case were charged in Court on Tuesday (15 October) while the two teenagers were brought back to court on Friday (18 October) to one more charge each for having obscene materials on their electronic devices.
