Be prepared for a fright because the line-up of masterclasses and classic horror movies for the Scream Asia 2019 film festival has been announced.
From 5 to 27 October, you will be able to catch screenings of classic movies that have been curated specially for horror movie fans to enjoy on the big screen, especially those born after the 1990s and would not have had the opportunity to watch these movies when they were brand new.
One of these great films is the Director’s cut of The Exorcist (1973) starring Linda Blair and the demon-possessed girl with the infamous head-spinning scene which you can catch on 5 October. The Exorcist became the first horror film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1973 and has remained one of the highest-grossing films in history with S$441 million box office takings as of 2019.

- Carrie (1976) – 13 October
- Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) – 19 October
- Friday The 13th (1980) – 20 October
- Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) – 26 October
- The Thing (1982) – 27 October

These movies will be screened over three weekends at The Cathay Cineplex (2 Handy Road) for S$7 per ticket available for purchase at Cathay Cineplexes box office, mobile app and website.
In addition to the line up of classic horror, Scream Asia will also be featuring a masterclass by renowned Taiwanese writer and director Giddens Ko who was behind campus blockbusters like Are You The Apple of My Eye (2011) and Mon Mon Mon Monsters (2017). The masterclass will be held at the 2mm Talen Hub on Saturday, 26 October from 2 pm to 5 pm. Tickets for the masterclass are available for S$10 each at the Cathay Cineplexes official website, where attendees can also sign up for a pair of complimentary tickets to a special screening of Mon Mon Mon Monsters (2017) on Friday, 25 October.
Since the launch of Scream Asia 2019 Horror Short Film Competition in June, regional filmmakers have been sending in entries from Brunei, China, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. Submissions for the competition officially closed on 30 September 2019 and results will be announced on 26 October 2019. Winning entries will be awarded cash prizes amounting to a total of USD 9,500 and one of the top 3 directors will be selected by mm2 to develop a feature film.
