Over 1,500 participants took part in the Singapore Kindness Run which was held for the third year at the National Stadium last Saturday (3 Aug).
This year’s run is a ground up initiative by Runners’ Heart-Reach, in collaboration with the Singapore Kindness Movement, conjointly with the launch of Get Active Singapore (GASG) 2019.
The primary objective of the run is to build a more gracious and kinder running community with participants encouraging one another, keeping the running route litter-free, and adhering to running etiquette that accommodates slower-paced runners.
The event was flagged off by Dr William Wan, General Secretary of the Singapore Kindness Movement along with Singa the Lion. The pair were joined by Sport Hall of Fame inductees – Adelene Wee, Singapore’s first World Bowling Champion and Sheik Alau’ddin, Singapore’s legendary Silat Champion.
Jagadish Sunuwar emerged first for the 10km Men’s category with a time of 36 minutes 54 seconds, while Sharon Tan came on top for the 10km Women’s category in 40 minutes 21 seconds.
To inculcate kindness and graciousness from a young age, kids also participated in the 800m Kids’ Dash where they were encouraged to have fun as they take to their hearts the values of kindness and look towards contributing to an inclusive society.
