Gold Horse Enterprise Pte Ltd was fined $7,500 by the Court on Wednesday (3 July) for importing fresh vegetables that did not conform with requirements in the import permit.
In a press release, Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said that officers from the former Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) detected 2,585kg of undeclared and under-declared fresh vegetables in the consignments of vegetables imported from Malaysia by Gold Horse Enterprise Pte Ltd on March 2019.
All of the illegal consignments were seized and destroyed, the agency noted.
SFA stressed that illegally imported food products are of unknown sources and pose a food safety risk.
In Singapore, food imports must meet Singapore Food Agency (SFA)’s requirements and food safety standards, it noted, adding that food can only be imported by licensed importers, and every consignment must be declared and accompanied with a valid import permit.
Offenders who illegally import food shall be liable on conviction to a maximum fine of $10,000 and/or imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years.
