Company fined $2,000 for illegal operation of a meat processing establishment

Goodcrop Pte Ltd was fined $2,000 by the Court on Wednesday (3 July)  for carrying out meat cutting activities, as well as packaging and storing of meat without a valid licence.
According to Singapore Food Agency (SFA), its officers detected illegal meat processing activities such as meat cutting in the chiller room and storage of frozen meat in the freezer room of Goodcrop Pte Ltd on April 2019.
According to the agency, the company had not yet obtained a cold store licence from SFA for the implicated premises at that time. All of the products were seized and destroyed.
SFA stressed that illegal processing and storage of meat at unlicensed premises pose a food safety risk. In Singapore, all meat processing and storage facilities must be licensed by SFA.
The agency said that it conducts regular inspections to ensure that these licensed premises meet our requirements and food safety standards.
Offenders who illegally process and store meat products shall be liable on conviction to a maximum fine of $10,000 and/or imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year.
