The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has announced that a 28-year old male police sergeant was found dead with a gunshot wound to his head on Sunday, 16 June. In a statement released on Monday (17 June), SPF elaborated that the incident occurred at the Yishun North Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC), 31 Yishun Central.
The officer in question had apparently reported for duty at 7.30pm on Sunday and recovered his service pistol from the police centre armoury.
“He was later found alone with a gunshot wound to his head at the rest area of the NPC at around 9.30pm with his service pistol beside him. He was conveyed unconscious to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and subsequently succumbed to his injury at 10.26pm,” said the statement.
The police has classified the case as an ‘unnatural death’ and ‘no foul play’ is suspected. The Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the case while the police are assisting the family.
Happened before
This is the second police officer to have been found dead from a gunshot wound this year. On 10 January, a 48-year old Aetos auxilliary police officer was found dead with his revolver next to him at the Woodlands Checkpoint.
Earlier in September 2018, a 23-year old police national serviceman was found with gunshot wound to the head during his break. His service revolver was found next to him. Tragically, he died in hospital 6-days later from his injuries.
Both cases were investigated as unnatural deaths and no foul play was detected.
