The Singapore Lyric Opera (SLO) will be bringing Opera in the Park for the 12th consecutive year, celebrating new beginnings with the theme “Nature and Hope”. It will be staged at the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage in the beautiful nature setting of Singapore’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site on 15 June 2019, 5.30pm.

As Opera in the Park enters into its 12th season, SLO is continuing its effort to bring opera to a wider audience by breaking the formal barrier of a conventional opera setting and removing any stigma or misconception of opera. This also falls in line with the vision of Singapore’s Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, who has been actively investing in facilities and programmes for Singaporeans to fully engage in the arts and culture.

Riveting and atmospheric, the collaboration with the Singapore Botanic Gardens will bring forth an environment that encourages the audience to immerse themselves in opera music while having a picnic with family and friends.

Audience can expect to enjoy joyful and uplifting arias from several classics such as Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Léo Delibes’ Lakmé, Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, J. Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, and Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida and La Traviata. The audience will also get to enjoy a mini preview of SLO’s upcoming production: Bizet’s Carmen.

Jonathan Charles Tay will be singing one of the highlights of the opera “La fleur que tu m’avais”; and Martin Ng will be performing the rousing aria “Votre toast”. Meanwhile, the SLO Orchestra will be led by Joshua Tan, an up-and-rising conductor from Singapore.

The concert will also feature soloists from the SLO–Leow Siak Fah Artists Training Programme – Cherie Tse, Zhang Jie, and Chieko Sato. Besides that, regular Opera in the Park supporters will be pleasantly surprised by new faces Sim Weiying and Joyce Lee who will be performing a couple of solo arias.

What’s more, the SLO Chorus, Youth Choir, and Children Choir will be making a guest appearance at the concert together with their respective conductors, Terrence Toh and Rose Loh.

So, what are you waiting for? Ready your picnic baskets, call your family and friends, and be sure to head over to Singapore Botanic Gardens on 15 June to experience the profound and transformative cultural experience of Opera in the Park!

Not forgetting, admission is FREE!
