Dr Tan Cheng Bock just announced on his Facebook page that the launch of the Progress Singapore Party (PSP) has been postponed.

In an earlier Facebook post on 27 May, Dr Tan said that the official launch of the party was scheduled for 16 June 2019 at EXPO Hall 5, pending police approval. Unfortunately, the Police Permit and other related permits such as the Public Entertainment License are still pending, says Dr Tan, meaning that they have to postpone the launch.

Dr Tan wrote in his post, “I have told my organising Team that we should comply with all the permits required for the event, no matter how many there are. We are currently looking at a new launch date of end June or sometime in July.”

PSP is a new political party set up by former presidential candidate and former People’s Action Party (PAP) Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Tan Cheng Bock and it received formal approval from the Registry of Societies on 28 March 2019. Dr Tan had made the application to form PSP earlier this year on 16 Jan alongside “twelve likeminded Singaporeans” including “some ex-PAP cadres”. The symbol of the party which was unveiled in April is a red palm tree.

Dr Tan also noted today that there has been a message going around encouraging Singaporeans to attend the launch on 15 June but clarified that it was not PSP that started that message. He said, “We appreciate the good intent of the originator of the message, but I would like to clarify that the message did not originate from the PSP.”
