Even if you are Usain Bolt or Dash from The Incredibles, you should never dash across the road when the traffic light is not in your favour.

A dashcam video captured at around 9am yesterday (14 May) showed a male student getting hit by an oncoming car while he was dashing across the road.

The footage of the incident was uploaded on Facebook page Roads.sg few hours after the event, and has been circulating social media since. The video was contributed by a witness at the scene of the accident, which took place along Lower Delta Road towards the AYE.

According to the caption of the post, the student reportedly ran across the road when the pedestrian light was showing red.

The 10-second footage shows a school boy attempting to cross a three-lane road, as he sprints along the pedestrian crossing only to end up colliding with an oncoming car on the rightmost lane. The impact sends him flying.

However, the boy appears to have escaped serious injury as he can be seen slowly picking himself up as the footage draws to a close.

Netizens reacted to the video by expressing concern for the boy and wishing him well. Many also called the accident “a very painful lesson” for the boy to learn about road safety, noting that the boy was at fault for naively crossing the road when the pedestrian light was flashing red.

Meanwhile, administrators of Roads.sg urged for drivers to take precaution when driving, especially when travelling along traffic junctions or crossings. They also advised drivers to be mindful and slow down at such particular juncture as it might be a blind spot for pedestrians or PMD riders who are attempting to cross the road.
