With less than two weeks to the opening of the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) 2019, new shows have been added to two sold-out hits.

A new show has been added on 25 May (Saturday) at 3pm for the show Displaced Persons’ Welcome Dinner, by critically acclaimed theatre company, Checkpoint Theatre. It is a multidisciplinary theatrical work commissioned by SIFA 2019 that investigates the truth of the aid industry, battling with the issues of conflict and the toxic nature of institutions.

Next, a new show has been added for Frogman, a thrilling murder mystery by critically-acclaimed UK company curious directive. The additional show will be on 23 May (Thursday) at 10.30pm. Frogman breaks out of the traditional mould of storytelling and leads theatre-goers into an immersive digital experience, integrating live theatre and virtual reality.

Peter and the wolf

What’s more, SIFA announced that local emcee, TV/video host and brand ambassador Jamie Yeo will be narrating two sessions of the beloved musical fairy tale of Sergei Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, a unique musical that combines live animation, puppetry and beautiful music by a 6-piece band.

Singapore’s Mediacorp defends drama series “Silent Walls” against accusations of harmful gay stereotypes

Mediacorp’s TV drama “Silent Walls” has received criticism from some members of the LGBTQ community for perpetuating harmful gay stereotypes. The criticism was primarily driven by an article from online LGBTQ+ publication Dear Straight People, which called out the relationship between two characters, citing their “problematic” large age gap as well as reinforcing the harmful stereotype that gay men are predators and groomers. The storyline was also criticized for implying that gay men are all diseased and promiscuous, suggesting that gay couples will always meet a tragic fate.
