Education Minister Ong Ye Kung has finally spoken but these things have gone on for years and this one has been in the public eye for a week already.
Our AG was silent, Our Law minister was silent, all our Female politicians were silent and remain so while a young woman, and as we are now seeing a string of young women, have been violated.
They seemingly put the appearance of institutions and the future of their little princes first when they should be treated like the bad sons (Si Gui Kia as my wife says) they are.
What if the girl was a rich man’s daughter instead of a common person? I wonder how fast and heavy-handed they would have reacted?
This is symptomatic of a government living in its own world with its own agenda calculating everything and feeling about nothing.
The system is more important than the people and only when forced do they react.
What kind of “leadership” is this?
No wonder they want to stop us talking with Prevention of Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act (POFMA), as we are putting too much of a spotlight on their growing list of failings.
Our country may look so glittery on the surface that a Stateless Palestinian with an Israeli passport blindly sings its praises but below it is dark and slowly rotting.
By the way, did you know we have stateless people here too? Born in the country but kept stateless or have had their citizenship removed by the same government that the young gentleman praises so loudly in his vlog?
Everyone should be equal under the law and the priority should be the protection and physical and mental safety of the victims not looking out for the perpetrators or the place they committed their crime.
To try and give any excuse shows an extreme lack of morality and empathy and we should no longer condone such attitudes
Recently a Singaporean writer mentioned “The Child in the Basement”, the David Brooks commentary on the story, “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas.” by Ursula Le Guintimes whereby everyone knows there is a child being tortured under their city but won’t speak out for fear it will harm their wealth and prosperity.
How many children, and now young women, do we have to have to scream in Singapore’s basement before we regain our humanity?
Is a glittering façade and the status quo really that important to you?
Can you continue to live with it?
Silence and inaction won’t save our nation’s soul.
