The Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA 2019) is opening up a limited number of seats to Ryuichi Sakamoto – Fragments held at Esplanade Theatre on 28 May 2019.

A total of 40 tickets will go on sale on Wednesday, 24 April at 10am for the same price of S$150 (free seating) and are available on a first come first serve basis. A maximum of two tickets can be purchased per person.

This intimate concert features the collaborative works of Oscar-winning composer, Ryuichi Sakamoto and multimedia artist, Shiro Takatani, also the founder of Japanese art collective Dumb Type, which sold out within the first hour of the ticket launch in February.

Ryuichi Sakamoto – Fragments draws from Sakamoto’s latest solo album, async, an introspective reflection on the essential nature of life and death following the maestro’s own battle with cancer. Sakamoto’s intense, masterful playing is heightened by Takatani’s cinematic visuals, full of poetic metaphors with its evocation of natural phenomena.

To complement the performance, an intimate talk with the artist, In Conversation with Ryuichi Sakamoto, will be added to the festival line-up. As one of the 21st century’s most prolific and influential musicians, Ryuichi Sakamoto will share about his four-decade long journey in music and reflections on life, all of which shapes the music he creates. This 90-minute talk will take place on 23 May 2019, Thursday at SOTA Concert Hall.

Fans of Ryuichi Sakamoto can also look forward to a showcase of his music in Shiro Takatani’s multimedia staging of ST/LL, which explores the idea of silence through the use of lighting, media art, stage design and dance movement. ST/LL will be presented at Esplanade Theatre on 24 and 25 May 2019.

Commissioned by the National Arts Council and organised by Arts House Limited, Singapore’s pinnacle performing arts festival will be held from 16 May to 2 June, featuring a line-up of iconic artists from around the world alongside the very best from Singapore.
