A total of 2,594,740 Singaporeans are eligible to vote in the next General Election (GE), according to the Elections Department (ELD).

The current figures mark an increase of 134,256 electors from the 2,460,484 of eligible voters recorded by ELD prior to the last election in 2015.

In a statement on Mon (15 Apr), ELD said that the Registers of Electors have been certified are now “available for public inspection”.

Singaporeans may check their particulars in the registers via the following channels:

  • Online at the Elections Department website;
  • At community centres/clubs with their NRIC/passport;
  • At Singapore overseas missions that serve as overseas registration centres with their NRIC/passport; and
  • At the Elections Department with their NRIC/passport.

Citizens whose names were removed from the Registers for failing to vote at a past election may still apply to have their names restored to the registers, so that they can vote at future elections, added ELD.

However, citizens who wish to have their name restored in the Registers are encouraged to apply early, as the ELD will not accept applications from the date the Writ for an election is issued.

Applications will only be reopened after Nomination Day if the election is not contested, or until after Polling Day if a poll is to be taken.

Singaporeans residing abroad for an aggregate of at least 30 days between 1 Feb 2016 and 31 Jan 2019 and whose names are available in the Registers may continue to register as overseas voters at one of the designated overseas polling stations if they have not done so after 1 Feb this year.

Citizens overseas who wish to check their particulars in the Registers may do so at Singapore missions serving as polling stations in New York, Washington DC, San Francisco, London, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Canberra and Dubai, reported The Straits Times.

“However, in accordance with the law, applications will not be processed during the period from the 3rd day after the Writ for an election is issued,” said ELD.

The Department added that such applications will only be processed after Nomination Day if the election is uncontested, or until after Polling Day if a poll is to be taken.
