An 81-year-old man has been fined $2,000 for breaching pet shop licensing conditions by failing to ensure that the bird cages were kept clean and dry.
In a press release on Thursday (21 March), Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) said that its officers conducted an unannounced routine check on Lee Ah Leng Bird Shop for compliance on pet shop licensing conditions on 27 June 2018.
A check was conducted by AVA on Lee Chwee Leong’s store which is located that Sims Avenue.
During the inspection, the officers found two of the bird cages which were in a filthy condition, littered with leftover food and bird’s droppings.
AVA stated that for breaching its pet shop licensing conditions, offenders shall be liable on conviction to a maximum fine of $5,000.
The authority noted that while it continues to ensure that regulatory measures are in place and enforced, the public can play a part to ensure observance of standards by pet shops and contact AVA at 1800-476-1600 if they come across any errant pet shop.
