A total of 6,000 of duty-unpaid cigarettes were seized in Tuas on Monday (11 March) at about 1.30 pm.
According to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), its officers conducted checks on a 40-footer container at a warehouse in Tuas which was earlier presented for clearance at the Pasir Panjang Scanning Station.
The consignment was declared to contain ten “Game Machines”. However, the officers detected anomalies in the scanned images of the consignment. The container was then sealed for checks at the trader’s premises.
The officers then conducted further checks and noticed that the game machines were locked, which further aroused the officers’ suspicion.
The officers then proceeded to pry open a game machine for closer examination and found the interior of the game machine to be hollow and contained duty-unpaid cigarettes wrapped in several black bundles.
The authority then handed the matter to Singapore Customs for further investigation.
