The Registers of Electors have been prepared and are open for public inspection from 26 Feb 2019 to 11 Mar 2019, which contain the names of all qualified electors as of 1 Feb 2019, the Election Department (ELD) announced in a press release on Monday (25 February).

The board stated that Singapore Citizens may check their particulars in the registers:

  • Online at the Elections Department website
  • At community centres/clubs2 with their NRIC/passport
  • At Singapore overseas missions that serve as overseas registration centres with their NRIC/passport
  • At the Elections Department with their NRIC/passport.

The addresses of the community centres/clubs and overseas registration centres are listed here and the Elections Department is located at 11 Prinsep Link Singapore 187949.

ELD stated that during the inspection period, a person may:

  • Submit a claim to include his name (if it has been omitted) or update his particulars (i.e. name and NRIC address) in the registers if his particulars in the registers are reflected differently from his NRIC.
  • Submit an objection to remove a name from the Register of Electors for the electoral division that the person is in.

Claims and objections may be submitted online using SingPass at the Elections Department website, or in person at community centres/clubs, Singapore overseas missions that serve as overseas registration centres and the Elections Department.

Restoration of name to registers

Persons whose names were removed from the Registers of Electors for failing to vote at a past election may apply to have their names restored to the registers, so that they can vote at future elections.

They are encouraged to apply early as no applications for restoration will be processed during the period from the date the Writ for an election is issued until after Nomination Day if the election is not contested, or until after Polling Day if a poll is to be taken, ELD said.

Registration as overseas elector

ELD stated that overseas Singaporeans, whose names are listed in the Registers of Electors and have resided in Singapore for an aggregate of at least 30 days during the 3-year period between 1 Feb 2016 and 31 Jan 2019, may apply to register as overseas electors to vote at one of the designated overseas polling stations in future elections.

With the preparation of the Registers of Electors, overseas Singaporeans who had registered earlier as overseas electors will need to re-register if they meet the qualifying criteria as of 1 Feb 2019 and wish to remain as overseas electors. Overseas Singaporeans are encouraged to register early via the above mentioned channels, it added.

Application for registration as an overseas elector is open all-year round. However, in accordance with the law, applications will not be processed during the period from the 3rd day after the Writ for an election is issued until after Nomination Day if the election is uncontested, or until after Polling Day if a poll is to be taken.
