There are a high percentage of Malaysians who work and travel daily to Singapore from Johor Bharu. They usually embrace the horrendous traffic to cross the bridge just to earn a higher salary. However, the daily commute can take a toll on their health mainly due to the physical exhaustion that they have to bear.

As such, on Saturday (23 February), a 31-year-old man who works at the city-state suddenly fell unconscious at the entrance of his house in Skudai, Johor Bharu.

It is said that he fainted at around 11am, right before departing to Singapore for work, and was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead later due to cardiac arrest.

According to China Press, Chua Beng Thong has been working in a glass factory in Singapore for nine years. His salary was merely S$1,000 and he commuted to work by bus daily.

When the reporters interviewed the man’s 71-year-old father, the senior citizen said that he last saw his son during Chinese New Year when he came back home to his hometown in Malim Nawar, Perak on the fourth day of the festival.

“My son used to travel back and forth from Malaysia to Singapore every day. Yesterday (23 February), he was getting ready to head out since it was a weekend but he suddenly fainted upon stepping out of the door,” said the grieving father.

The China Press also reported that Chua once complained to his family that it was exhausting for him to travel to Singapore on a daily basis. Therefore, the heartbroken father advised his son to return and find another job in Malaysia.

The Johor Bharu general hospital alerted the police at 11.30am about this matter and they have ruled out any criminal element in this case.

This news was shared on World of Buzz’s Facebook page and over 80 comments were received with people mostly conveying their condolences to the victim’s family.

Some Malaysians who work in Singapore also suggested that one should take rest if they feel extremely exhausted.
