Two separate cases of Malaysians attempting to smuggle in duty-unpaid cigarettes concealed in their Malaysia-registered cars were foiled by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers on Wednesday (23 January).
In a Facebook post on Friday, ICA stated that its officers detected anomalies in the undercarriage of the first car, driven by a 33-year-old woman. Officers found 460 packets of cigarettes hidden in its modified fuel tank.
For the second car, driven by a 33-year-old man, 30 cartons of cigarettes were detected in the speaker compartment in the car boot.
The authority then referred both cases to Singapore Customs and investigations are ongoing.
