Following Aloysius Pang’s death, the public are calling for the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) to take responsibility of his death.
Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Operationally Ready National Serviceman, Corporal First Class (National Service) [CFC (NS)] Pang Wei Chong, Aloysius passed away yesterday (23 January) in New Zealand after sustaining serious injuries while carrying out repair works inside the Singapore Self-Propelled Howitzer (SSPH), four days earlier.
The 28-year-old was hurt when the gun barrel was lowered, and was rushed to Waikato Hospital where he underwent a number of surgeries to treat his injuries. Sadly, the damage was too severe, and MINDEF announced his demise on Wednesday.
The SAF will be making arrangements to bring back the body of late Pang to Singapore.
According to MINDEF, an independent Committee of Inquiry will be ordered to investigate the circumstances leading to the incident. A press conference will be held on 24 January 2019 to present the preliminary findings and will be chaired by the Chief of Defence Force.
Upon hearing this news, many netizens have voiced their dissatisfaction and asked MINDEF to take responsibility of this incident.
Some even called for Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen and Chief of Defence Force (CDF) Lieutenant-General Melvyn Ong Su Kiat to step down from their position.
