Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the CNN interview.

It would appear to be so because there is no other act of his that is more noteworthy in 2018.

The problem for Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is that by stooping to sue blogger Leong Sze Hian over a Facebook share, he inadvertently re-opened old wounds by making himself a target of sniper fire by his brother in exile.

Lee Hsien Yang’s singular act of being the first to contribute to Leong’s defence fund speaks volumes.

So it’s not just Lee vs Leong but also Lee vs Lee. It shows us that the Lee family feud is far from over and PM Lee is fair game for pot shots.

The irony is that PM Lee has been relatively low profile for much of the year. He stayed silent over the recent Singapore-Malaysia tensions when more than half his cabinet and even his wife waded in.

In fact, his spouse, Ho Ching has hogged more headlines than her husband.

With Li Shengwu going into exile due to the contempt of court charges against him and Lee Hsien Yang, Lee Suet Fern and Lee Weiling now silent, we did see her chill and dabble boldly and proudly at being the country’s First Lady, Facebook Guru, Poet Laureate and Anti-Fashionista (anything but reveal what she does as Temasek CEO) while the Prime Minister largely stayed on the sidelines.

Perhaps PM Lee was ill advised. Perhaps he thought he could end the year with a bang. It is looking more but like he is ending 2018 with a whimper.

What on earth does one make of a Prime Minister who makes his most noteworthy and newsworthy act of the year that of suing a fellow citizen?
