Wife of former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, Rosmah Mansor, infamous for her extravagant spending and penchant for Hermès Birkin handbags during her husband’s tenure, has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at its headquarters today.

According to Rosmah’s lawyers, the arrest took place at 3.20 p.m. while she was giving her statement during her third appointment with MACC officials.

Previously on 5 Jun, she was probed for approximately five hours by the MACC officials regarding SRC International, a former subsidiary of the state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

On the 26th last month, Rosmah was interrogated for about 13 hours at the MACC for the second time regarding 1MDB itself.

Two days before the second round of questioning, Chief Commissioner of the MACC Shukri Abdull announced that the investigations on Rosmah had been completed, and that the report had been submitted to the Attorney-General.

The decision to prosecute Rosmah, he added, would be left to the A-G.

It is understood that Rosmah will be charged with money laundering tomorrow (4 Oct).
