In a visit to Malaysia’s administrative capital city Putrajaya yesterday (Aug 23), Singapore’s Transport Minister Mr Khaw Boon Wan discussed the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) project with Malaysia’s Economic Affairs Minister Mr Mohamed Azmin Ali.

According to a Ministry of Transport spokesperson, the purpose of the meeting was to “continue the discussion they had on 11 Aug on the HSR”.

In a meeting with his Malaysian counterpart Mr Anthony Loke in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur yesterday, Mr Khaw discussed “a broad range of transport issues”, which included the Johor-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) project, according to a Ministry of Transport spokesperson.

The spokesperson said: “The ministers look forward to strengthening transport collaboration, and to bring the RTS Link project to fruition, which will ease congestion at our existing land checkpoints”.

Previously, an in-principle approval was granted by the Malaysian Cabinet regarding the RTS project, according to Mr Loke.

Mr Loke said at the end of last month that a joint operating company between Malaysia and Singapore will be established once a full approval is granted, according to Malay Mail Online.

Spanning 4 kilometres between Bukit Chagar Station in Johor Bahru (JB) and Woodlands North, the RTS was slated to be fully operative by 2024, and is estimated to have a capacity of 10,000 passengers per hour in a one-way trip between JB and Singapore.
