Land Transport Authority has announced the road closure over seven days during the Formula 1 2018 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix, which be returning to the country between 14 and 16 September 2018.

The authority stated in a press release on Tuesday (21 August) that the race organisers have made arrangements to ensure minimal traffic disruptions and facilitate accessibility, while allowing members of the public to carry on with their normal daily activities in the Marina Centre area.

According to LTA, similar to previous years, road closures for the Singapore Grand Prix will take place over seven days. Affected roads will close from 12.01 am on Wednesday (12 September) for the set-up of race infrastructure, and all roads will be fully accessible by 5.30am on Tuesday (18 September).

LTA added that to facilitate better traffic access this year, race organisers have made arrangements to progressively re-open more roads earlier after the race.

In the release, the authority announced the road corridors which will be opened at selected hours during the road closure period to facilitate morning and evening peak hours.

The authority also added that operating hours of MRT train services will be extended on 14 – 16 September, to cope with commuter volume.

Train services will be available at City Hall MRT station till 12.30am on 14 and 15 September 2018, and till 12.45am on 16 September 2018 and the operating hours for selected feeder bus services will also be extended to match the last train services.

Free shuttle buses will be available between Lavender MRT Station and Gate 1 of the race venue, it added.

The authority encouraged members of the public to use public transport during the road closure period between 12 and 18 September 2018. Similarly, ticket holders are encouraged to make use of public transport during race days to get to the race venue as most gates are within walking distance to an MRT station. Taxis are also available as an additional option.

LTA then stated that those who wish to drive can access the Marina Centre area via a single lane along Raffles Boulevard via Nicoll Highway (except for buses and vehicles with W,X,Y plates):

  • 12 – 14 September, from 10am to 5pm and from 10pm to 6am.
  • 15 – 16 September, from midnight to 1pm.
  • 17 September, from midnight to 6am, 10am to 5pm and from 10pm to 6am.

Taxis will also be able to use the single-lane access at all times, except during the hours when the race is ongoing on Saturday and Sunday. In addition to the single lane road, motorists can also enter the Marina Centre area via Temasek Boulevard from Rochor Road (after exiting ECP) throughout the day, it said.

To ensure smooth traffic flow, LTA said that the traffic wardens will be deployed on site to direct traffic and assist the public. Road information and directional signs will also be put up in the vicinity to direct motorists. Car parks at Suntec City, Millenia Singapore and Marina Square will remain open to public, subject to availability.
