It was reported in the news that 2 more former senior officers from the Singapore Armed Forces have joined SMRT senior management rank. As a citizen and a commuter, I seriously wonder why is SMRT taking in so many former senior military officers into their senior management rank. In other words, is it fair and realistic to expect different and/or better performance and results from SMRT by them doing more of the same things and very likely wasting our precious national resources along the way?

SMRT is a public transport company and the MRT is our strategic national transport infrastructure. Singapore is not the only country in the world to have a mass rapid transport system. China, Japan, Moscow and London etc all have similar transport systems and most of them, if not all, have older but no less reliable system than ours.

It is also not unreasonable to imagine that they carry more people each day than our MRT do. I ask how many of them have in their senior management teams crowded with former senior military officers who have spent more than 10 years or even over 20 years in the forces but possessing absolutely zero experiences running rail infrastructures?

If the PAP government is really serious in wanting to lift the standards, quality, safety and reliability of our MRT, then what they should have done is to seriously search the world for real and experience relevant professionals to run our MRT system and train our own people to take over from them eventually and not turn SMRT into a semi-retirement organisation to reward their faithful and loyal former senior military officers.

It certainly looks that way to more and more Singaporeans and I hope that I am wrong on this one because if I am correct, then it is another clear sign that our beloved country under the useless Lee Hsien Loong government is going to the dogs.

I repeat. If the Lee Hsien Loong government is serious in wanting to lift the standards, quality, safety and reliability of our MRT, they really should seriously search the world for real and experience relevant professionals to run our MRT system and train our own people to take over from them eventually and not turn SMRT into a semi-retirement organisation to reward their faithful and loyal former senior military officers.

If I were put in charge, I would have search the world for the truly and most qualified rail transportation professionals to run our MRT and train up our own people and sharpen their skills, competency and drilled in them the right attitudes and not turn to our little SAF pond time and again and again and again.

It would be our national nightmare if the PAP government has quietly departs from running our country based on Meritocracy to one based on using public funds to buy and reward loyalty only to itself. This is no rocket science. All we need is common-sense and a real love for our country with no hidden agendas whatsoever.

Think! Be brave and think!
