5.3 million passengers passed through the Singapore Changi Airport in January, a 0.9 percent year-on-year increase, states Changi Airport Group (CAG)

The government-linked-company noted along with the increase of passengers, aircraft movements were also 2.8 percent higher with 32,490 landings and takeoffs, while airfreight throughput rose 10.7 percent to reach 175,590 tonnes, compared to the same period last year.

The group also stated that passenger traffic for the month remained stable compared to a year ago, which saw travel boosted by the Lunar New Year holidays in January 2017.

Among Changi’s top 10 country markets, Japan, India, and Thailand led the gainers, adding that major city routes which recorded strong traffic growth of at least 8 percent included Bangkok, Chennai and London

As at 1 February 2018, CAG stated that more than 100 airlines operate at Changi Airport, connecting Singapore to some 400 cities in about 100 countries and territories worldwide. With more than 7,200 weekly scheduled flights, an aircraft takes off or lands at Changi roughly once every 80 seconds.

According to CAG, Indonesia AirAsia has recently introduced daily services to Padang – the first new city link for Changi Airport this year, as well as daily services connecting Singapore and Medan. JC (Cambodia) International Airlines has also joined Changi’s family of airlines, operating daily services between Singapore and Phnom Penh. Scoot also commenced thrice weekly services to Kuantan.
