HDB: 17,000 new flats to be launched for sale in 2018

Housing and Development Board (HDB) has announced that it will launch about 17,000 new flats for sale in 2018.

It noted that for the first Build-To-Order (BTO) exercise to be launched in February 2018, HDB will offer about 3,600 flats in Choa Chu Kang, Geylang, Tampines and Woodlands.

It is said by the agency, that the Resale Price Index (RPI) fell by 0.2 percent, from 132.8 in the third quarter of 2017 to 132.6 in the fourth quarter of 2017. It added that the RPI for the full year of 2017 registered a decline of 1.5 percent.

Resale resale transactions is also said to have fallen by 1.2 percent, from 5,808 cases in the third quarter of 2017 to 5,738 cases in the fourth quarter of 2017. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2016, resale transactions in the fourth quarter of 2017 were 14.5 percent higher.

For the full year of 2017, HDB states that resale transactions increased by 6.1 percent, from 20,813 cases in 2016 to 22,077 cases.

The board notes that the number of approved applications to rent out HDB flats rose by 5.4 percent, from 10,698 cases in the third quarter of 2017 to 11,279 cases in the fourth quarter of 2017.

It said that compared to the fourth quarter of 2016, the number of approved applications to rent out HDB flats in this period were 5.6 percent higher.

As at 31 December 2017, HBD stated that there were 53,750 HDB flats rented out, an increase of 0.6 percent over third quarter of 2017 (53,445 units).
