FEVER ROOM: Blurs the lines of reality and fantasy, bringing audiences on a multi-sensory journey

FEVER ROOM, by internationally acclaimed filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul is set to be premiered here in Singapore by TheatreWorks Curators Academy.

The first South East Asian winner of the Palme d’Or, the highest prize awarded at the Cannes Film Festival, Apichatpong Weerasethakul is one of the most original and exciting voices in contemporary art today.

Apichatpong makes his first incursion into the world of theatre with FEVER ROOM, a projection-performance that defies definition and category. Embark on a journey that transcends the intimacy of the theatre and the frontiers of cinema, as you are plunged deep into a dream-like universe.

Featuring Jenjira (Jen) and Banlop (Itt), who also appeared in his critically acclaimed Cemetery of Splendour, Apichatpong fuses his memories with the actors' and fictionalises the narrative.

Jen is a housewife lying in hospital waiting for an operation. Itt is a soldier, an inhabitant of a country deprived of light, and who is in a state of slumber. They cross paths in their dreams where people take refuge while their land is on a brink of collapse, echoing Apichatpong’s perspective on Thailand's present state of military dictatorship.

Apichatpong shares “my work is created through personal interaction. I create works that fulfill two criteria: the first is the pursuit of knowledge and intellectual reflection through personal communication with the audience; the second is the reflection of my own feelings and desires”.

Witness firsthand the sapience of Apichatpong Weerasethakul. A must feel theatrical experience, FEVER ROOM blurs the lines of reality and fantasy, obscurity and illumination, bringing audiences on a multi-sensory journey. Touring since 2014, Fever Room has wowed audiences around the world, and Singapore is the next stop for this out of body experience!
