On Wednesday afternoon (17 May), the fire-fighting system along the Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE) tunnel has been accidentally activated, the Land Transport Authority informed on Facebook.

LTA wrote, “At 12.57pm today, the water-based fire-fighting system along the Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE) eastbound tunnel, before the exit to Fort Road was accidentally activated.”
“After verifying that there was no fire, the system was immediately switched off, and normal traffic condition resumed at about 1.06pm.”
LTA is investigating the cause of the incident, the post said.
A Facebook user, Juniper Chew, shared the LTA post, writing, “Hey, just after an airport terminal fire, checkpoint systems malfunction, now this ? Some mal-actor hacking our public infra to test our response ?? Suspicious.”
Stomp reported that a Stomper sent a video of the scene on the expressway when the incident occurred, sprinkles of water can be seen in the video, raining out from the top of the tunnel.
Traffic slowed down at the water jets area and motorcyclists stopped at the road shoulder putting on rain jackets.

LTA introduces one-time adjustment to COE quotas for categories A and B in response to record high premium

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced a one-time adjustment to reduce supply volatility of Certificate of Entitlement (COE) quotas for Categories A and B vehicles. Category A will see a 24% increase, while Category B will see a 15% increase for the remaining five bidding exercises this quarter. This move aims to lessen supply volatility, though it will not eliminate it. The long-term upward trend of COE prices due to rising incomes and zero vehicle population growth will persist.
