Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT) announced a delay on its North-South Line (NSL) and East-West Line (EWL) due to a track fault during the Tuesday (18 April) morning rush hour.
SMRT first tweeted the delay on its NSL at 7.19am, asking commuters to add 10 minutes of additional travelling time from Bishan to Khatib towards Jurong East and noting that train service was still available.
An hour later, it said that 20 minutes was needed and train service was still avilable.
Two hours after its first tweet, it asked commuters to cater 20 minutes of additional travelling time from Bishan to Khatib and that it was working to recover service.
At 8.35 am, SMRT also tweeted that its EWL was also experiencing a delay. Due to track fault, commuters were asked to add 10 minutes of additional travelling time from Paya Lebar to Simei towards Pasir Ris. It noted that train service was still available.
Around two hours after its first tweet about the EWL, SMRT said that the fault has been cleared and the service has resumed.
Commuters took to social media to write about their frustration. Many of them stated that SMRT should be clearer in announcing how long exactly the delay occurred.
Alicia Jo tweeted that the service towards Marina Bay also had a delay, while @Maki_HOA wrote that the train towards Bishan was also going slow.
Eddy Tan suggested to SMRT to send SMS’s regarding the delays as he just got off the bus when he heard about the delay.
