The National Wages Council (NWC) invites members of the public to share views on what could be included in the annual wage recommendations.
The tripartite body made up of employer, employee, and government representatives will convene in April and May 2017 to develop its annual wage and wage-related guidelines.
In a statement on Friday (24 Mar) NWC stated, “In its deliberations on wage guidelines, the NWC considers factors such as Singapore’s economic performance, as well as the domestic and global economic outlook.
At the same time, the NWC takes into account Singapore’s economic competitiveness, labour market conditions, inflation, and productivity growth.”
Last year, the NWC has recommended:

  1. employers grant low-wage workers a built-in wage increase in the form of a dollar quantum and a percentage;
  2. employers grant a built-in wage increase of $50 to $65 for low-wage workers earning a basic monthly salary of up to $1,100; and
  3. employers grant an equitable and reasonable wage increase and/or one-off lump sum based on skills and productivity for low-wage workers earning above $1,100.

NWC said that members of the public are encouraged to share their views on what could be included in the annual wage recommendations, as well as other wage-related issues. Feedback received will be considered by the NWC as part of its deliberations.
By 14 April 2017 feedback can be directed to the Secretary of the NWC through email  or mail to:
