A teenager riding an e-bike ran a red light and knocked into a elderly man in his sixties who was crossing the road on a bicycle.
The accident occurred at the junction of Hougang Ave 5 and Ave 7 at about 9pm on Thursday evening (23 March).
According to the Lianhe Zaobao, the teen said he was out riding the e-bike alone and on his way home when the accident occured.
When the reporter from Lianhe Zaobao rushed to the scene after a tip off from a reader, the senior cyclist in his sixties had already been sent to the hospital, while the teenager who was involved in the accident stayed at the scene to be interviewed by the police.

It was said that the teenager rode past the private bus which was on the left lane but the senior cyclist also crossed the road at the moment and the teen could not dodge or brake on time to prevent a collision.
The teen, with bruises on his right foot, told the reporter that he feels guilty for causing the accident and hopes that the elderly can recover soon. He will also check if the e-bike was malfunctioning.
Under the Road Traffic Act, for traffic accidents with injury/death, vehicles are not to be moved unless instructed by the police. As the police carried out their investigation, warm-hearted members of public helped to direct and move the traffic while the bicycles were still obstructing the road.
Under traffic regulations, cyclists are allowed to use LTA-approved power-assisted bicycle on a public road if they are above 16 years of age. Suitable protective bicycle helmets must be worn by both the cyclist and the pillion passenger. LTA also advises cyclists to dismount from their bicycle and push it forward when crossing the road.
The police has said that an investigation is ongoing.
