Singapore Police Force (SPF) has announced that it arrested two men aged 24 and 26, for their suspected involvement in a series of cases involving the theft of motorcycle parts.
The Police said that it received several reports on the theft of motorcycle parts in the Woodlands and Marsiling housing estates between end-February 2017 till mid-March 2017.
It said that the cases involved the theft of brake components of large capacity motorcycles.
Upon receipt of these reports, the Police stated that officers from Jurong Division carried out extensive investigations and with the aid of Police Cameras (POLCAM), the identities of the duo were established.
On 22 March 2017, the 24-year-old man and his 26-year-old accomplice were arrested at Woodlands Checkpoint and Tuas Checkpoint respectively. A plier, two spanners and a set of allen keys were also seized from the possession of the 24-year-old suspect as case exhibits.
The Police noted that preliminary investigations showed that the stolen parts were put up for sale on Facebook by the duo.
Both suspects will be charged in Court on 24 March 2017 with the offence of Theft of Motor Vehicle Component Parts with common intention under Section 379A, read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, the duo faces a maximum jail term of 7 years and shall also be liable to a fine.
The Police advise motor vehicles owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Park your motorcycle in well-lit areas.
  • Install an anti-theft alarm system for your motorcycle.
  • Use a motorcycle canvas to cover your motorcycle, securing both ends.
  • Use additional locking devices such as disc brake locks or install suspension guards; and
  • Exercise due diligence in verifying if the motor vehicle parts you intend to purchase are from legitimate dealers
