Leading up to Mother’s Day, the Singapore Heart Foundation (SHF) will be holding the Healthy Mummy, Healthy Family Symposium 2017 on Saturday, 6th May as part of its Go Red for Women (GRFW) campaign.
According to SHF, GRFW aims to empower women with the knowledge and tools that can help reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease. A GRFW survey conducted last year, revealed that only 10 percent of respondents were aware that cardiovascular disease was 1 of the 2 leading causes of death for Singaporean women.
Hence, this symposium serves to raise awareness, as well as to encourage women to make their heart health a priority. Guest of Honour Madam Halimah Yacob, Speaker of Parliament and MP for Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC, will be gracing the event.
At the symposium, participants can look forward to two informative talks – by a cardiologist and a dietitian, followed by a special hands-on Hearty Bento Workshop, led by Singapore’s top bento artist, Ms Shirley Wong.
Participants may choose to attend just the talks or attend both talks and the Hearty Bento Workshop with differing prices.
Women and Heart Disease: Are You at Risk?
Heart disease and stroke combined, is the leading cause of death and disability in women worldwide. Therefore, it is important to take preventive measures early by eliminating the risk factors. Hear more from Dr Goh Ping Ping, Cardiologist and Official Spokesperson for Go Red for Women and Medical Director of the Singapore Heart Foundation, on how to lead a heart-healthy lifestyle.
Nutrition for the Heart and Benefits for the Family
What we eat can contribute significantly to our risk of developing chronic diseases. However, a healthy and balanced diet can help us to lead a longer and healthier life. Hear from Ms Valerie Teong, Dietitian at Women’s Heart Health Clinic, National University Heart Centre, Singapore (NUHCS), on how to cultivate good eating habits from young and adopt heart-healthy practices to protect your family.
Hearty Bento Workshop
Looking for creative ways to prepare a healthy meal for your family? Learn how to create a healthy, wholesome and kawaii bento using simple yet nutritious ingredients taught by Singapore’s top bento artist, Ms Shirley Wong, better known as Little Miss Bento! The workshop will provide each participant with a basic introduction on how to make creative lunch boxes that are healthy, delicious, and look great!
In addition to the exclusive door gift worth $50 (limited to one per person), a buffet lunch spread will be catered for all participants, the SHF said.
