Co-distributors Giraffe Pictures and Golden Village Pictures of the award-winning movie, POP AYE, has announced that the movie will hit silver screens in the Republic on 13 April.
The Singaporean filmmaker, Kirsten Tan, who also directed and wrote the script, won the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Screenwriting at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in January this year.
The movie, which was shown for the World Premiere on 19 Jan 2017, also won the the VPRO Big Screen Award at International Film Festival Rotterdam 2017 in February.
POP AYE is also up for several other awards including the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize, World Cinema Directing Award and the Audience Prize.
The film is produced by Giraffe Pictures (Executive Producer, Anthony Chen) and E&W Films (Producer, Lai Weijie).
NICE Cultural Investment Group and Giraffe Pictures provided the financing for the film, with the support of the New Talent Feature Grant from the Singapore Film Commission and the Production Award from TorinoFilmLab.
Ilo Ilo director Anthony Chen is the executive director of the movie, along with producers Lai Weijie and Huang Wenhong.
The movie was shot entirely on location in Thailand with Thai actors and crew.
It tells the story in which, on a chance encounter, a disenchanted architect bumps into his long-lost elephant on the streets of Bangkok. Excited, he takes his elephant on a redemptive journey across Thailand, in search of the farm where they grew up together.
