Islamic religious Council of Singapore (Muis) has warned a cafe, Home Taste Restaurant, which is located at South Bridge Road, in Chinatown for displaying a fake halal logo on its signage.
The matter was first posted on Halal Cafe & Restaurant in Singapore Facebook page, where one of its group members posted a video of the signage.
Zat Rishid wrote, “I would like to report Home Taste, 295 South Bridge Rd. Signage has Halal Sign, but the restaurant has Pork & Alcohol,” along with a video of the restaurant on Tuesday (7 March).

Muis, who found out about the matter from the Facebook post said in a statement, “Our Halal Enforcement Team visited the premises on the same day and informed the restaurant to remove the logo immediately.”
“The team is following up with enforcement action against the restaurant,” it added.
All Singapore Stuff also posted a complaint from one of its contributor, Juliana, who said that she had checked on the MUIS website and found that the restaurant does not own a legitimate halal certification issued by MUIS.
She stressed that it is a fake halal restaurant and hope the authorities can take action against this cafe.
“This is misleading to consumers especially to Muslims tourists may not know any better. Please help raise awareness of this fake halal restaurant and get the authorities to clamp down on such unethical practice,” she complained.
Another Facebook user, Desinta Arisade Halid, posted a picture of the restaurant, saying that on Thursday (9 March) the logo has been removed.

According to The Straits Times, Home Taste’s manager, who refused to be named, said in Mandarin that the logo on the banner was due to a printing error and has since been taken down.
She told ST that it was a misunderstanding and it was not aware of what it was before.
