A 41-year-old man, Singaporean Teo Ghim Heng, was charged in court on Monday (30 January) with the murder of his wife and daughter on the first day of Chinese New Year (28 January).
A 39-year-old woman and 4-year-old girl were found laying motionless on their bed in their bedroom on a sixth floor unit at Woodlands Drive 52, Block 619 by the Police.
The victims were both pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at around 7pm.
Madam Choong Pei Shan is the suspect’s second wife. They got married on 7 December 2009.
Earlier, the Police said that it received a call at 6.35pm requesting for assistance. A Facebook post by Khan Osman, who lives at the same block, showed two Police cars parked in front of the building with police lines marked around the area.
Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was also received a call for assistance at 6.30pm and dispatched one fire engine, one red rhino, one ambulance and a support vehicle to the scene as there was a burnt odour around the neighborhood which was believed to be related to the death.
Teo is now warded at the Singapore General Hospital. He was then appeared via videolink before District Judge Mathew Joseph.
He will be remanded at Central Police Division after his discharge, with permission to take him out for investigation.
His case will be mentioned again on 6 February.
Teo will face the death penalty if convicted of murder..
